Barrier and Traffic Cone
A road barrier on trestles stands next to a traffic cone.
This picture shows a small road barrier next to a traffic cone. Together they make a familiar roadside scene, where an area has been blocked off for work.
What can you see?
On the left stands a wide barrier board on two crossed wooden trestles. The board is filled with diagonal stripes, and two small round warning heads sit on top, looking a bit like lamps. Next to it stands a traffic cone with a broad, square base. Several horizontal rings run around the cone and split it into sections. The shapes are large and clear, with only the diagonal stripes adding some variety.
Colouring ideas
- The stripes in alternating red and white, or yellow and black, like a real barrier
- The cone in bright orange with white rings
- The wooden trestles in brown or grey
Who is it for?
With a few large areas and only the slanted stripes as detail, this page suits younger children from around four years old. Barriers and cones help make a worksite easy to see, so that nobody walks or drives into it by accident. While colouring you can talk about why such warning signs often wear bright colours: they need to be spotted from far away. Can you remember where you last saw a traffic cone on the road?
